Financial Control Built for Small Business Owners

Running a small business means juggling numbers that actually matter. We help Australian business owners understand their finances without needing an accounting degree or expensive consultants.

Our Journey with Small Business Finances

We started miravessan in 2019 because too many business owners were overwhelmed by financial management. Here's how we've grown alongside Australian small businesses.

2019 - 2020

Foundation Years

Started with a simple question: why do small business owners dread looking at their numbers? We interviewed over 80 business owners across Canberra and Sydney. Most told us they felt stupid around finances, which wasn't true at all. The tools and advice just weren't built for people running cafes, tradie businesses, or local retail shops.

2021 - 2023

Building Practical Solutions

We developed our learning materials by working directly with real businesses. Not theory from textbooks, but actual scenarios from people managing payroll on Fridays, dealing with late-paying clients, and trying to figure out if they could afford a new hire. Our programs grew from feedback from tradie businesses in Queanbeyan and retail shops in Civic who told us exactly what confused them.

2024 - Now

Growing with Our Community

Today we support hundreds of small businesses across ACT and NSW. Our approach hasn't changed much since day one. We explain financial concepts in plain language, show you how they apply to your specific situation, and give you tools that actually work without requiring a finance background. Programs for 2026 are already being shaped by businesses we work with now.

What You'll Actually Learn

Forget generic business advice. These are the specific skills that make a difference when you're running a small operation.

Cash flow management tools and planning materials

Cash Flow That Makes Sense

Not the complicated spreadsheets accountants love. We show you how to track what's coming in and going out in a way that takes 15 minutes a week, not hours. You'll know if you can make that equipment purchase or if you need to chase up invoices first.

Business financial analysis and reporting session

Reading Your Numbers

Profit and loss statements don't have to be scary. We break down what each line actually means for your business decisions. You'll understand margin, overhead, and whether you're pricing your services correctly. Real talk about the numbers that matter.

Small business planning and strategy discussion

Planning Without Guesswork

Budgeting sounds boring, but it's just planning ahead with realistic numbers. We help you build financial plans based on your actual business patterns, not templates from the internet. You'll know what you need to bring in each month and have backup plans when things go sideways.

Built for How Small Business Actually Works

Most financial education assumes you have a finance team or hours to spend on complex software. That's not reality for small business owners who are also doing sales, managing staff, and keeping customers happy.

We designed our programs around the time and knowledge you actually have. Short modules you can do between other tasks. Plain language explanations. Tools that work with what you're already using, not fancy new systems that require training.

  • Learn in 20-minute chunks that fit around running your business
  • Get templates and tools you can start using the same day
  • Ask questions about your specific situation, not generic scenarios
  • Access materials anytime, revisit topics when you need them

This isn't about becoming a finance expert. It's about having enough understanding to make confident decisions about your business without second-guessing yourself or paying for advice on things you could handle yourself.

Quick Wins You Can Start Today

While you're deciding about a program, here are four things you can do this week to improve your financial visibility.

Set a Money Date

Pick one day each week to review finances. Same time, same day. Friday mornings work well for many businesses. Just 20 minutes reviewing what came in, what went out, and what's coming up.

Know Your Break-Even

Write down all your fixed monthly costs. Rent, insurance, minimum wages, subscriptions. That's what you need to cover before you're making money. Simple number to keep in mind.

Track What Repeats

Look at expenses that show up monthly or annually. Are you still using all those subscriptions? Could you negotiate better rates on insurance? Regular costs are easier to control than variable ones.

Watch One Number

Pick your most important metric and check it weekly. Could be cash in bank, revenue this month, outstanding invoices. Just one number you track consistently gives you early warning when things shift.

Ready to Get Control of Your Numbers?

Our next full program starts in September 2026. Between now and then, we run shorter workshops and have plenty of resources available.

What Happens When You Join

First, we talk. Not a sales call, just a conversation about where you're at with your business finances and what would actually help. Some people need full programs, others just need specific resources or a couple of workshops. We're honest about what makes sense.

If you decide to go ahead with our learning program, here's roughly how it works:

  • You get access to all core modules covering cash flow, financial statements, pricing, and planning. Work through them at your own pace over 6-8 weeks.
  • Fortnightly group sessions where you can ask questions about your specific situation. These run online, usually Tuesday evenings Canberra time.
  • Templates and tools you download and adapt for your business. Cashflow trackers, pricing calculators, budget templates. All editable, nothing locked down.
  • Email support when you're stuck on something. We usually respond within a business day, often faster.
  • Access continues after the program ends. Materials update, you can revisit topics, ask follow-up questions months later.

We keep groups small on purpose. Maximum 15 businesses per program. That way everyone gets actual attention and we can address real situations, not just generic examples. It also means programs fill up, so if you're interested in September 2026, get in touch before June.
